Chilled beams in a tropical climate? Many Engineers have questioned whether this is possible as they are concerned about the possibility of condensation and always ask to see a reference project where this technology can be demonstrated. Well now “seeing is believing” as TROX Malaysia has now renovated its demonstration laboratory to include two TROX type DID600B chilled beams to demonstrate that chilled beams can be used in a tropical climate. This system has now been successfully running since March this year without a trace of condensation appearing. During this period we have really put the system through its paces by opening the doors of the laboratory to let in humid air and switching off the cooling coil in the AHU providing the primary supply air so that 100% unconditioned air entered the space. 

The design of the chilled water piping is an important part of the system and the method used at TROX Malaysia demonstrates one method of accomplishing this. We at TROX can provide assistance with the design of the chilled water system and provide advise regarding the selection and location of the control valves and condensation sensors.
